Let's Talk About YOU!
"How cool is it that the same God who created mountains and oceans and galaxies looked at you and thought the world needed one of you, too?"
Hi Friends! Thanks for reading today’s essay. It is about YOU! To begin with, I will share the conclusion of what you are about to read. Always be your own kind of beautiful! Imagine the billions of human beings that have passed and are passing through this world. YOU can KNOW with certainty that God has fashioned you to be the only YOU that has ever existed. Your purpose, as Frido Khalo put it, is to pass through this earth with the intention of being authentic; to manage to be more like yourself as you possibly can be. In my humble opinion, we are spiritual beings inhabiting bodies that enable us to live out a finite life on earth. Scientists through the centuries have determined that all matter (including our bodies) is made of energy. From the micro to the infinite, we are all connected. Like a puzzle, we are the variably shaped pieces that, when assembled, become a comprehensive whole. By the way, God started this whole shebang when He spoke the universe into existence. His voice was the vibration that set up eternal, ubiquitous frequencies.
Understanding insofar as we can grasp the concepts of infinity and eternity, YOU are so much more idiomatic than you probably think you are. YOU are as customized as any star, or grain of sand on the beach, or any tree that rustles in the wind.
As a child, we easily assimilate to the conditions conferred upon us- primarily by family. We begin to make personal choices based on the values imposed on us. What foods do I like? What clothes make me feel comfortable? What friends do I choose? What activities appeal to me? Sports? Arts? Reading? School?
But as we embark on our adult life, we can be molded by our culture and society. People in your life may push you into certain behaviors or preferences. Much of your early adult life can feel uncomfortable- as if your clothes don’t fit. But we go on to fulfill our human obligations.
After years of experience and interaction with other people, jobs, social expectations, and striving for goals, you begin to understand that you are as bright as any bossy person you have ever encountered and have as much of a right to self-expression as anyone you meet. You know more realistically how the world works and how it affects you. You may begin to feel drawn to spirituality in appreciating yourself and others. You learn to choose which invitations and events you respond to carefully. Your slate of friends may begin to trim down. You seek friends who support your values and ethics. This is not to say you eliminate the population at large. You continue to engage and offer kindness, but you guard your heart’s secrets and share them only with your most trusted connections.
Along the way, we have made choices about the material things we need to sustain our human body. Although this is not an everyday use of the word, people come in many genres! Some people dress fancy and particularly, while others dress peculiarly! Some people live in big houses and have expensive things. Some people travel from place to place in a retrofit VW van. Some people are picky eaters; other people eat anything they pick up! Your choice of friends tells people a lot about you!
These days, which are my older years, have naturally led me to be aware of my soul and my relationship with God. As my body expresses the characteristics of old age, I’m more aware of mortality. Even as the image in the mirror becomes more of a fright, I still feel the thrill of being young, vibrant, and vital! My newfound awareness of my soul has opened a brilliant vista. It is an adventure of freedom and getting to know and express the real “ME!” No one else is or has ever been me. I am not recycled!
Enjoy your worldly life but be inwardly inquisitive. What is it that I want to do with my time? How do I like to share my life with others? What goodness do I wish to express from my soul? You can ask yourself, or you can ask God. It would be sad if you left this world, never having known yourself. When you know yourself, you can bring your authentic self to life, being the only YOU that ever was.
Let me close with a poem and a meme:
“Let us celebrate our You-niqueness! Shall we?”
